The Last Spin Around

The last issue of the semester has been printed and this will be my last post to you as your Editor-in-Chief.

Melisa Thew's photo contribution brightens the cover and reminds me of the growth that I've seen this paper undergo during my time in the Spinny Chair.  It's been a good ride this year, Concordia, and I hope that the Blue & White was something that added to your student experience.  I know it sure added to mine.

Alexandra wanted to include this picture in the issue; unfortunately, the last page didn't have enough room for its epicness.  Happy grad to all you who are leaving these halls for galaxies far, far away.

And, in parting, thanks for the contributions from our contract writers, our editors, and you the student body!  If you are interested in being more involved in the Blue & White next year, contact Kyle Lim at csavpinternal@student.concordia.ab.ca.

Peace out!

Issue # 11

Though it is still a dismal 20 below zero outside, the B&W is sporting some green on our gorgeous colour cover, thanks to Sarah Gale.

Besides the editors' striking new head shots, Issue #11 features the winners of our first ever poetry contest!  Thanks to everyone who entered, and to Lisa Martin-DeMoor who adjudicated!

We are looking for editors and writers to be a part of the 2011-2012 B&W staff.  If you are interested, please contact us by March 28th for more information: bw.concordia@gmail.com.

With CSA elections around the corner, Issue #10 has a peculiar political flavour.  Feminism, political apathy, 2011 as the year of Science, and an interview featuring the GSA are all there for your pondering pleasure.*  And if the cerebral exercise is a little heavy, there's a chemical crossword to distract for a while.

Speaking of science, the Chaplaincy centre is hosting a Dr. Deborah Hemmerling on the topic of Faith and Biology, Wednesday March 23rd at 2pm, check it out!

Something else worth attending: the Mission Trip teams are hosting a coffeehouse featuring Concordia students in Tegler at 7:30pm Friday March 11th, lots of stories and music will be shared!

Thanks to everyone who submitted their work for the B&W poetry contest! Winning entries will be included in the March 28th issue.

Have something to share? Send it in: bw.concordia@gmail.com

*(Also in this issue is an article containing pointed attacks on the CSA.  The Blue & White would like to apologize to the members of the CSA for printing this piece; the article will be further addressed in the next issue.)

All's Fair in Love and U-Passing

How do you feel about the proposed U-Pass?  Such a question can only mean one thing: issue number 9 is out and about good people!

Just in time for Valentine's day, an article about NASA's love tryst, marital problems in the world of "Our Hero, A Rock", and a reminder to buy an Orange Crush for that special someone to help support the Concordia Mission Trip.

Speaking of, the benefit concert featuring Edmonton-based rock band, Zerbin, and Concordia's own Sara Isabel went down in Tegler last night: thanks to everyone who came and helped out with the event!

Don't forget: poetry contest entries are due February 28th.
200 words, any topic.  Send us your poem at bw.concordia@gmail.com
First prize: $50 gift card for the Concordia Bookstore!

Reimagination

Yes, it's true, Issue #8, our REIMAGINATION issue is out and about.  If you haven't yet read a copy, you may want to pick one up from one of the stands around Concordia: Alexandra has reformatted the paper, reframing the articles within a refreshing new format that is for this issue only.  Jacob Bos' vivid shot of Concordia graces the cover, and Stephanie Mak's and Mellisa Thew's art and photography are also featured.
So, what can you expect from Issue #8?

*a message from the other spinny chair
*a nostalgia-evoking article on video games
*keys to reimagining junk
*Concert chior update
*review of Serafin's album "Love's Worst Crime"
*and more!

Speaking of music, Edmonton's own rock band, Zerbin will be playing at Concordia February 11 at 7pm, it's going to be epic!  All proceeds will go towards Concordia's mission trip to the west coast over Reading Week.  Great cause, great music, check it out!
And don't forget, we are accepting entries for the poetry contest until February 28th: 200 words on any topic!

As always, we'd love to hear from you! Send your comments, art, ramblings to bw.concordia@gmail.com
